Please join us in giving a warm welcome to our new 2nd-grade teacher, Kristy Lawson — the newest star in our Penguin flock!
Kristy began her teaching adventure back in 2015 at an international school, where she taught 1st Grade for two years. Since then, she’s worn many hats in the world of education — from assistant and lead roles in Pre-K for six years, to student teaching in 3rd Grade, digital instruction in 2nd, and tutoring K–5 learners in literacy. She’s even supported 6th Graders and taught English to adults! Her wide-ranging experience makes her a fantastic addition to our teaching team.
Originally from out of state, Kristy just moved to Virginia with her husband and their very clever pup, Indiana Bones 🐾. Outside the classroom, she’s a true performer at heart with a rich background in theater and a love for musicals and live shows. She’s also a big fan of reading, especially in the cozy autumn months with a warm coffee and a great book in hand.
We’re so excited to welcome Kristy to the Seven Pines community — it’s going to be a fantastic year! 💙

Please join us in giving a heartfelt welcome to Tracy James, our new Early Childhood Instructional Assistant!
Tracy brings with her over two decades—21 years!—of dedication to supporting students and families in the county school system. A proud graduate of VCU and J. Sargeant Reynolds, she’s no stranger to the classroom and brings with her a passion for learning, compassion, and a deep belief in the power of education. Outside of school, Tracy’s life is full of love and inspiration. She’s a proud mom to two incredible children and a doting grandmother to an adventurous 6-year-old grandson who keeps her smiling and on her toes! Tracy is also continuing her own journey as a student by working toward a degree in Liberal Arts, because for her, learning never stops.
With a heart for children and a calling to serve, we’re beyond excited to have her join our team. Welcome to the Penguin family, Ms. James! 🐧❤️

It’s Welcome Wednesday, and we’re thrilled to introduce a new face joining our Penguin crew — Lauren Niles, stepping in as a permanent substitute! Lauren brings a warm heart and a wealth of experience with her. A graduate of the University of Phoenix, she previously taught K4 for three years at Clover Hill Christian School and has worked across all grade levels while substitute teaching in Powhatan County. She’s currently back in school herself, pursuing a degree in education — talk about lifelong learning!
Lauren is passionate about rescuing dogs (she has two of her own), and she and her husband stay active in their community as youth group leaders. Whether she’s teaching little ones or lifting up young hearts, Lauren’s dedication truly shines.
We’re so excited to welcome her to our school family! 💙

Let's welcome our new permanent substitute, Marisa Davis!
Marisa brings a heart for helping others and a wealth of real-world experience from her 4.5 years as a charge nurse, where she led mentoring, training, and skill-building efforts every single day. Marisa is no stranger to working with children of all ages, and she’s passionate about helping children grow into the best version of themselves.
At home, life is vibrant and full of energy! Marisa is a proud wife, supermom to two sons and two daughters, and pack leader to two fun-loving dogs. This school year is especially meaningful: while her youngest is stepping into kindergarten, her oldest is gearing up for 5th grade — and she’s thrilled to be embarking on this new journey with her kids by her side.
From the baseball field to the motocross track, Marisa and her family stay on the go — but we’re so glad she’s made a little room in her full and fabulous life to join our school community. Welcome aboard, Marisa! 💙🍎

Back by popular demand… let’s give a very special welcome back to one of our Early Childhood Preschool stars — Ms. Beverly Griffin!
While she's not new to our school, Beverly’s warmth, creativity, and commitment to her students make her feel like a fresh burst of joy every year. A proud alumna of both Virginia Commonwealth University and Liberty University, she brings not only a wealth of knowledge but also a heart full of passion for early learning.
Outside the classroom, Beverly’s life is just as vibrant. She’s a fan of all things creative—from reading, drawing, and adult coloring to experimenting with photography. When she’s not crafting with colors, she’s likely casting a line—saltwater fishing has been a lifelong love! A devoted dog mom with an appreciation for exotic cats, Beverly also cherishes every moment spent with her family and friends.
We’re thrilled to have her bright spirit lighting up the preschool wing again this year. Here’s to another amazing chapter with Ms. Griffin! 💛

We are starting off a new series, Welcome Wednesday! Each Wednesday, we will welcome a new Seven Pines staff member. This week we are starting off the series with Dakota Stevens.
Please join us in giving a warm welcome to our newest Penguin family member, Dakota Stevens, who is joining us as a school counselor!
With a Master’s in Counseling from Thomas University and a Bachelor’s in Criminology from Florida State University, Dakota brings both strong academic preparation and real-world experience to our team. Over the past year and a half, she has served as a school counseling intern with Richmond Public Schools, following her work as a trauma-informed education specialist supporting students across the district.
Outside of school, Dakota is all about creativity—whether it’s painting, baking, reading, or sewing—and she’s always up for a good hike or some quality time outdoors (as long as it’s not scorching hot!). When she’s not exploring her hobbies, you’ll likely find her relaxing at home with her fiancé, their cat, and a bearded dragon!
We’re so excited to welcome Dakota to our school community and can’t wait to see the impact she’ll make. 💙🐧
